Amanda & Alan’s Italian Job set in Fornovolasco!

In June 2023 our small village in the Tuscan mountains was invaded by the crew and cast of Amanda & Alan’s Italian Job. They chose Fornovolasco in the breathtaking Garfagnana area of Tuscany for the second season of the BBC series. For several weeks Amanda and Alan could be seen visiting the Fabbriche di Vergemoli area as they filmed their Italian Job. But why did they choose Fornovolasco?

As in the first season of Amanda & Alan’s Italian Job, the BBC got on board with the “one-euro houses” project that many Italian local authorities are running to help restructure and repopulate ancient towns. One of these local authorities is that of Fabbriche di Vergemoli. This municipality is now one of the smallest in Italy with just 798 inhabitants spread over 11 villages, including Fornovolasco, but at its peak in the 19th century it was home to more than 4000 people. It was during this period that Il Boscaccio was built.

The house chosen for the series Amanda & Alan’s Italian Job was of a similar period to that of Il Boscaccio but located in the old town centre of Fornovolasco. The BBC series follows Amanda Holden and Alan Carr step by step as they purchase an old, dilapidated building, for the symbolic price of one euro, and restore and renovate it. Throughout the 8 episodes of Amanda & Alan’s Italian Job the presenters are helped by local craftsmen to restore the house to its original glory. Once the building is finished it will be sold with the profits going to charity.

Of course, Amanda and Alan also visited the local area, the spectacular Garfagnana, nestled between two mountain ranges in the north of Tuscany. With a rich culture, welcoming locals, and stunning views this area has won the hearts and souls of many tourists who have come here on holiday, only to decide that they never want to leave again! What better way to discover this hidden gem and follow in the footsteps of Amanda & Alan’s Italian Job than a stay at Il Boscaccio.
